WHAT IS RED LIGHT THERAPY?

The Science

What is it and how does it work?

What is Red Light Therapy?

Red light therapy is a non-invasive, scientifically-backed treatment that uses specific wavelengths of red and near-infrared (NIR) light to promote cellular regeneration, rejuvenation, and overall well-being. Decades of clinical studies and literally thousands of research papers support its effectiveness in delivering a range of health benefits.

Using a medical-grade red light therapy device like HealPRO’s, which emits both red (visible) and near-infrared (invisible) light, allows you to safely enjoy the benefits of natural light without the harmful UV rays associated with sun exposure. The light wavelengths used in our devices (5 wavelengths ranging between 630nm and 850nm) penetrate the skin, reaching deeper layers of tissue for optimal results.

YOUR RITUAL, REDEFINED

How Does it Work?

01. Light Absorption

Red and near-infrared light penetrate your skin, reaching deep into your skin tissue. This light gets absorbed by the mitochondria, the “powerhouse” of your cells, which play a crucial role in producing energy.

02. Energy Production

Once the light is absorbed, your mitochondria spring into action, producing more ATP (Adenosine Triphosphate)—the fuel that powers cellular functions. More ATP means your cells are primed for optimal performance, ready to repair and rejuvenate themselves.

03. Cellular Upgrade

With increased ATP levels, your cells can perform their jobs more efficiently—whether that’s reducing inflammation, promoting muscle recovery, or regenerating skin tissues. This leads to faster healing and improved overall wellness.

04. Feel The Difference

As your cells work harder and faster, the benefits start to show. Red light therapy helps reduce pain, enhances skin health, accelerates recovery, and boosts your general sense of well-being. It’s not just skin-deep—it’s full-body healing from within.

MORE THAN BRIGHTNESS

Understanding the Wavelengths of Light

SURFACE-LEVEL HEALING

Red Light

Red light falls within the 620-750nm range and is known for its ability to target the skin’s surface layers. It’s particularly effective for improving skin health, boosting collagen production, and aiding in wound healing. Its wavelengths can penetrate up to a few millimetres, making it ideal for treating aesthetic & surface conditions like wrinkles, scars, and surface inflammation.

DEEP TISSUE RELIEF

Near-infrared (NiR)

Near-infrared light, found within the 700-1,000nm range, reaches deeper tissues than visible red light. It’s known for promoting muscle recovery, reducing joint pain, and accelerating the healing of deeper injuries. With the ability to penetrate up to 2 inches into the body, NIR stimulates cellular energy production and supports overall tissue regeneration.

ACNE BUSTING POWER

Blue Light

Blue light has a shorter wavelength (around 400-500 nm), making it effective for targeting surface-level issues like acne. It works by killing bacteria on the skin, improving clarity, and reducing breakouts. However, blue light doesn't penetrate deeply, and its therapeutic use is mostly limited to dermatology and cosmetic treatments.

Infrared Light

Infrared light has wavelengths longer than near-infrared, extending from 1,000 nm to 1 mm. Unlike NIR, which is closer to visible light (but is still invisble), infrared is purely thermal and generates heat (hence infrared saunas). It’s widely used in therapeutic settings for deep tissue heating to alleviate muscle stiffness and joint pain.

POWERFUL, WITH RISKS

Ultra Violet Light (UV Radiation)

Ultraviolet (UV) radiation ranges from 10-400 nm and includes UVA, UVB, and UVC types. While UV is essential for vitamin D production, it can also damage skin cells, leading to premature aging and increasing the risk of skin cancer. Unlike red and NIR light, UV radiation is not used in any of our HealPRO panels due to its potentially harmful effects.
