Check Out Our Glossary
Before you jump in, the world of Red Light has a tendency to use a lot of scientific (and often confusing) words. That's why we've constructed an easy-to-read glossary to help.
General
What is Red Light Therapy?
What is Red Light Therapy?
Red light therapy is a non-invasive, scientifically-backed treatment that uses specific wavelengths of red and near-infrared (NIR) light to promote cellular regeneration, rejuvenation, and overall well-being. Think of it as giving your body’s natural repair systems an extra boost—helping you recover faster, reduce inflammation, and improve your performance.
How does Red Light Therapy work?
How does Red Light Therapy work?
Red light therapy works by delivering light energy to your cells, specifically targeting your mitochondria (the powerhouse of the cell - throwback to year 9 biology). Once the light is absorbed, your cells produce more ATP (Adenosine Triphosphate)—the fuel your body uses for healing and recovery. With increased energy, your cells can perform their jobs more efficiently, promoting muscle recovery, reducing inflammation, and rejuvenating your skin.
Is Red Light Therapy safe?
Is Red Light Therapy safe?
Yes, red light therapy is extremely safe. It uses non-ionising light, meaning it doesn’t damage your DNA or increase the risk of cancer, unlike UV (Ultraviolet) light.
It’s backed by a strong safety profile, with dermatologists and health professionals recommending it as a non-invasive, low-risk treatment.
If you're still concerned we recommend a Google search on Google Scholar on the studies backing this claim and to consult your doctor.
HealPRO panels are also TGA Registered, FDA Approved, and have been extensively studied to ensure safety for your body.
What are the benefits of Red Light Therapy?
What are the benefits of Red Light Therapy?
Red light therapy increases your cellular generation of ATP (see How does Red Light Therapy work? FAQ) and so it has a wide range of benefits, including:
- Faster muscle recovery
- Reduced inflammation
- Improved skin health (anti-ageing, collagen production)
- Boosted energy and performance
- Improved wound healing (faster)
- Pain reduction
Whether you’re using it for skin health or muscle recovery, red light therapy delivers results that build over time.
Does Red Light Therapy work for hair loss?
Does Red Light Therapy work for hair loss?
Red Light Therapy has been shown to stimulate hair follicles and promote hair growth. Use it on your scalp 3-4 times a week for best results. Most users see noticeable improvements in hair density after 12 weeks but it can vary.
Usage
What is the recommended session time and frequency?
What is the recommended session time and frequency?
Start with 3-5 minute sessions for each area and gradually work your way up to 15-20 minutes per session. We recommend using your panel 3-4 days per week (you can use it up to 7 days), depending on your needs and tolerance to the treatment.
While increasing session frequency can speed up the time to see results, you should judge frequency based on your tolerance to the treatment.
Increasing session duration past 20 minutes has not shown any significant improvement as your cells can only absorb so much light at a time (based on clinical studies).
How long until I see results?
How long until I see results?
Red light therapy technically starts working straight away (once you expose your cells to light, they get to work) but it’s not an instant fix, and visible results vary depending on the condition being treated, session consistency, and individual factors.
Think of it like going to the gym—one session won’t yield visible changes, but with regular use, the benefits build over time.
On average, you can expect to see noticeable results within 6-12 weeks of consistent use, with 3-4 sessions per week. The longer you use it, the more your body will adapt and respond to the therapy. Some users may see quicker improvements for skin conditions, while deeper concerns like muscle recovery can take longer.
Can I overuse Red Light Therapy?
Can I overuse Red Light Therapy?
It’s unlikely that you’ll “overuse” red light therapy, but we recommend following the guidelines to let your body adapt and respond properly.
Start with 3-5 minute sessions for each area and gradually work your way up to 15-20 minutes per session. We recommend using your panel 3-4 days per week (you can use it up to 7 days), depending on your needs and tolerance to the treatment.
Increasing session duration past 20 minutes has not shown any significant improvement as your cells can only absorb so much light at a time (based on clinical studies).
Where should I use Red Light Therapy?
Where should I use Red Light Therapy?
You can use red light therapy on any part of your body that needs healing—whether it’s your face, arms, back, legs, or specific problem areas. The flexibility of HealPRO panels means you can target various areas depending on your needs.
How close should I be to the HealPRO device?
How close should I be to the HealPRO device?
For best results, position yourself 15cm (6 inches) from the panel. This distance is based on clinical standards for optimal irradiance and light absorption. Getting closer than this won’t necessarily enhance the therapy, but moving further away will lessen the intensity of the light which can impact the therapy. Try to stay at the recommended distance to ensure maximum effectiveness.
Do I need to prep my skin before treatment?
Do I need to prep my skin before treatment?
Just make sure your skin is clean and dry. There’s no need to apply creams or lotions beforehand, as they can block the light from penetrating your skin effectively. After your session, feel free to apply your favourite recovery or skincare products.
Can I use Red Light Therapy with other skincare and recovery products?
Can I use Red Light Therapy with other skincare and recovery products?
Yes, Red Light Therapy complements other skincare routines and recovery products. It can even enhance the absorption of products used post-treatment, such as anti-aging creams or recovery serums. Just avoid heavy products before or during your session as they might interfere with the light penetration.
Technical
What wavelengths does HealPRO use?
What wavelengths does HealPRO use?
HealPRO’s MAX panels use 6 wavelengths ranging from 630nm to 850nm. This spectrum of light allows us to target everything from surface-level skin concerns to deeper muscle recovery.
All wavelengths:
- 480(blue)
- 630nm (Red Light)
- 650nm (Red Light)
- 660nm (Red Light)
- 670nm (Red Light)
- 810nm (Near Infrared)
- 830nm (Near Infrared)
- 850nm (Near Infrared)
What's the difference of wavelengths mean?
What's the difference of wavelengths mean?
Different wavelengths penetrate the skin at different depths. 660nm red light is ideal for skin rejuvenation and surface healing, while 850nm near-infrared light penetrates deeper, helping with muscle recovery and inflammation. Using a combination of wavelengths ensures comprehensive treatment for both surface and deep tissue healing.
Also, that's not just us pulling random wavelengths out of our ass. The wavelengths within this range are some of the most commonly studied wavelengths for therapeutic benefit with the most studied being 660nm.
Do you have any certifications?
Do you have any certifications?
Yes, HealPRO devices are both TGA Registered (this is an Australian administration) and FDA Approved (USA) . We also meet strict EMC and RoHS compliance standards (EU) for safe, low-EMF therapy, so you can rest easy knowing you’re using one of the safest devices on the market.
Does the HealPRO Panel radiate heat?
Does the HealPRO Panel radiate heat?
You might feel a mild warmth during your session, but HealPRO panels don’t radiate heat like other devices. The light energy is non-thermal, meaning it won’t overheat or burn your skin. Any warmth you feel is simply a byproduct of your cells absorbing energy, which is totally normal.
